Body Mass Index (BMI) is a quick screening number that compares your weight with your height. Enter your weight and height below to see your BMI and its general category. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere.
BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m) × height (m). For example, 70 kg and 1.75 m gives 70 ÷ (1.75 × 1.75) = about 22.9.
| BMI | General category |
|---|---|
| Below 18.5 | Underweight |
| 18.5 to 24.9 | Normal weight |
| 25 to 29.9 | Overweight |
| 30 and above | Obesity range |
Is BMI accurate for everyone? No. BMI does not measure body fat directly. Muscular people can have a high BMI while being healthy, and older adults or people with less muscle can have a normal BMI with a higher body fat level.
Does BMI apply to children and teens? No. For children and teens, BMI is compared with age and sex percentiles, so the adult table above does not apply.
What should I do with my result? Use it as a starting point. A doctor or dietitian can look at waist size, blood pressure, blood sugar, and your overall health before giving advice.
BMI is a screening measure, not a medical diagnosis. This page does not give medical advice.
